Man charged in HMP Edinburgh drugs probe after £60,000 of heroin seized
A man has been arrested and heroin worth more than £60,000 seized in a police operation to stop drugs being smuggled into a prison.
Officers recovered heroin worth £11,000 and mobile phones close to HMP Edinburgh on Saturday November 5.
An investigation with the Scottish Prison Service led to a further find of £50,000 of heroin at an address in Loganlea Terrace, Edinburgh, on Friday November 18.
A 47-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with the supply of drugs.
Detective Sergeant Gary Reid said: Tackling the sale and supply of controlled drugs is a top priority for Police Scotland and the disruption of all drug-related activity including around HMP Edinburgh is of the utmost importance to us.
The toll of illegal substances on our society is incalculable. We continue to work to bring to justice and hold to account those who supply drugs in our community.''
