Man charged as teenage girl hit by car fights for life

A 37-year-old man has been charged as a teenage girl fights for life after being by a car in East Lothian.

Police said the 17-year-old was taken to hospital where her condition was described as "critical".

Emergency services were called to Haddington Road in Musselburgh at around 4.15pm on Friday after she was hit by a black MG HS.

Officers said on Sunday that the 37-year-old driver of the car, who was also taken to hospital, had been charged with road traffic offences.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A 43-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, did not require medical treatment.

Sergeant Dominic Doyle said: "We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and I would ask anyone who has yet to speak to us to get in touch.

"All details are important, even if they seem insignificant, please do pass them on. If you have any information regarding the collision or saw the vehicle prior to the collision, please do contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2415 of Friday April 18.
