A bus driver has been charged after a 79-year-old man died in a crash in Edinburgh.

Pedestrian Alan Moir was struck by a bus on Haymarket Terrace on February 4.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of the emergency services.

The 34-year old man accused is due to appear in court at a later date.

In the days after the incident in the capital, Mr Moir's family paid tribute to a 'beloved Dad and Granddad'.

In a statement, they said: "We would like to thank the police, paramedics and members of the public who tried to save our beloved dad and grandad.

"As a family, we ask for privacy at this difficult time."
