A man has been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police in Edinburgh recovered a substantial cannabis cultivation.

Officers carried out a search of an address in Southhouse Square on Tuesday where they found over 200 plants along with quantities of herbal cannabis and diamorphine.

The drugs recovered are valued in excess of £30,000.

The 48-year-old was scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Alan O’Brien from the Proactive Unit at Gayfield Police Station said: “This is a sizeable drugs recovery with a potential value of tens of thousands of pounds and we are delighted to have seized these substances before they could reach our communities.

“We are committed to tackling drug crime in Edinburgh and bringing those involved in their production and supply to justice.
