A man has been arrested over fears for a woman and a baby after a fraught street lockdown situation in Edinburgh.

Armed officers raced to St Leonard's Street around 9.00 this morning after reports of a disturbance.

Over a half a dozen vehicles were deployed as well as an ambulance and a section of the street was sealed off with nearby residents evacuated as a precaution.

It's unclear if the man was armed but the force now has a 46-year-old in custody,

That's as a 38-year-old woman and a baby have been taken to hospital as a precaution.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Saturday, 21 June, 2025, we were called to a report of a disturbance at a property on St Leonard’s Street, Edinburgh.

“Specialist officers, including firearms officers, attended and a 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with causing a disturbance.

“A 38-year-old woman and a baby were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
