Man appears in court over death of Lionel Simenya in Edinburgh

22-year-old Declan Mayes made no plea

A 22-year old man has been charged with causing the death of 36-year old chef, Lionel Simenya, by culpable and reckless driving.

Declan Mayes appeared in private on petition before Sheriff John Cook at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday

No plea was made and the case was continued for further inquiry. Mayes was remanded in custody.

Mr Simenya was struck by a car in Ford's Road in the Saughton area of the city, in the early hours of March 7.
