A 74-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a white transit van near Kirkcaldy during the early of hours of today (Tues).

The accident happened at around 12:30am on Invertiel Road, known locally as the Quarry Road, around one mile east of the town.

The Ford Transit was travelling towards Kirkcaldy.

Police are now piecing together exactly how the accident happened and have appealed for information.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, of Fife’s Road Policing Unit, said: "Our condolences are with the family of the man who sadly died.

"I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the B9157 around midnight or late last night who might have seen a man wearing dark clothing walking on that route, or who may have seen a white Ford Transit van travelling towards Kirkcaldy, to get in touch.

"Road closures are still in place while enquiries are conducted at the scene, and I want to thank the public for their patience at this time."
