Man, 73, punched in face during 'random' city centre attack
The elderly victim was assaulted on Queen Street by a man who got out of a car.
A 73-year-old man has been punched in the face during what police say was a random and unprovoked attack on Queen Street in central Edinburgh.
The suspect initially shouted abuse from the passenger seat of a car but turned violent when his victim crossed the road at the junction with Hanover Street.
It happened at 10.45am on Thursday, 27th July.
The pensioner was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he was treated for a serious facial injury.
Officers say they are following a positive line of enquiry but are appealing to anyone who has information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Bruce Coutts said: "This was a random and unprovoked attack which has left an elderly man shaken and with serious facial injuries.
"I’m keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this assault, or may have information which can assist with our enquiries.
