A man has died in a fire in a block of flats in Fife.

The 42-year-old was rescued from the ground-floor flat at Sir Jimmy Shand Court in East Wemyss on Saturday morning but pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbouring flats were evacuated as a precaution while fire crews put out the blaze.

The emergency services were called to the scene at about 10.30am when a neighbour raised the alarm.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are carrying out a joint investigation and, as in all cases of sudden death, a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham Fenton said: This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the death of a 42-year-old man.

Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

A thorough and robust investigation into the cause of the fire is now under way however the incident is being treated as non-suspicious at this time.''
