Man, 41, stabbed outside Edinburgh's King's Theatre

The victim was attacked on Tarvit Street in a crime police are treating as attempted murder.

A man has been left with several cuts and stab wounds after he was attacked outside the King's Theatre in Edinburgh.

The 41-year-old was standing in an alcove of the building on Tarvit Street when three men approached him from Drumdryden Street.

Two of them pulled out blades and launched the attack at around 9.45pm on Thursday (28 Sept).

The victim was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but his condition is not life-threatening.

Police are treating the case as attempted murder and one man has been detained.

Officers are following a positive line of inquiry as they hunt a second man but they are still appealing for anyone with information about the attack to get in touch.

Detective Sergeant Mark Lumsden said: "This has been a very violent assault, which left the victim with several painful injuries requiring medical attention.

"We are currently pursuing a number of lines of investigation to identify those responsible but are really keen to hear from anyone who was in or around Tarvit Street on Thursday evening and witnessed what happened.

"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to our ongoing inquiries is also urged to contact police immediately.
