A pedestrian is fighting for life in hospital after a crash involving two vans on the M8 yesterday.

The 26-year-old man was seriously hurt on the westbound carriageway, near Harthill services, around 4.05pm.

It involved a grey Renault Trafic SL28 van, and a Volkswagen Crafter van.

He was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

That section of the motorway was closed for more than five hours.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released pending further enquiries.

Police want to speak to anyone with dashcam footage, or who saw what happened.

Sergeant Scott Sutherland, of Motherwell’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.

“We would be especially keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.

“Anyone with information or footage can contact officers on 101, quoting incident number 2210 of 17 October, 2022.

“I’d also like to thank the motorists who were affected by the road closure for their patience while we carried out our investigation.”
