Police appeal for dash-cam footage after woman, 20, dies following M8 crash

Police say enquiries are ongoing to find out the full circumstances behind a fatal crash on the M8 just two days before Christmas.

A 20-year-old woman - named locally as Brooke Russell - was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries after the Vauxhall Adam she was driving left the road, near Livingston.

She died in hospital the following day.

Another woman, aged 21 - the front seat passenger - suffered minor injuries and was released after treatment.

The tragedy happened between junctions three and two, on Thursday, December the 23rd, around 8.50pm - around 300 metres from the bridge over the Union Canal.

The motorway was closed eastbound for seven hours to allow officers to examine the scene.

Road Policing Sergeant Iain McIntyre said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family of the woman who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time to get in touch. In particular, anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation is asked to call us.
