Hearts legend and club ambassador Gary Locke says he is "very excited" to see striker Lawerence Shankland join the Jambos.

The 26-year-old Scotland international has signed a three-year contract at Tynecastle after Hearts paid Belgian side Beerschot an undisclosed fee, believed to be six-figures.

This weekend could be Shankland's first chance to play in Maroon in front of the supporters in Gorgie.

The Jambos are due to host English Championship side Stoke City in a testimonial for Locke.

Speaking ahead of the match, former Hearts player and manager Locke said:

"Hopefully he's the final piece of the jigsaw you know

"it's a hard task sometimes for Boycie (Liam Boyce) up front. He does a great, great job for the team but it's a difficult role that when you're playing up front on your own.

"So hopefully when Lawerence comes in he can take a wee bit of pressure off Boycie's shoulders and bang in a few goals, which is what we're expecting him to do."
