A police officer who risked his life to stop an attack on Holyrood has told his story to Forth News.

Detective Constable Glynn Powell was on duty at the Scottish Parliament back in March when Piotr Swiatek set fire to the outer walls of the building with barbeque accelerant.

Detective Constable Powell ran towards the knife-weilding man and wrestled him to the ground before arresting him.

Piotr Swiatek was jailed for over two years in October.

Detective Constable Powell told Forth News: "I just instinctively grabbed the arm that was holding the arm, there was a brief struggle during which he dropped the knife.

"It's only afterwards that you start thinking about the what ifs, what if this, what if that. It's one of those moments you'll never forget."

He's been recognised for his actions at the Scottish Police Federation Bravery Awards.
