Tributes have been flooding in from all walks of life to music legend David Bowie after the announcement of his death this morning.

Bowie, whose groundbreaking music inspired generations during a career spanning six decades, died at the age of 69 after being diagnosed with cancer.

The cultural pioneer's death in New York on Sunday, following an 18-month illness, was confirmed by his family.

Edinburgh-born guitarist Ricky Gardiner played on his 1976 album, "Low" and performed across UK and US with Bowie as part of Iggy Pop's band.

He's been speaking to our reporter Lizzie Parker:

Gardiner played guitar while Bowie played keyboards for Iggy Pop's tour of Europe and the USA in 1977.

He remembers: "David was one of the musicians on that tour and he was very good. David was a big star and Iggy was known about in the press but wasn't a big star yet.

"But David behaved himself and didn't hog the camera and when we did TV he was jusrt one of the band. He was very generous. A good chap to work with."
