Pupils from Leith primary school have donated hundreds of items to a local foodbank instead of giving their teachers Christmas presents.

The kids brought in non-perishable items to donate in a move organised by the school's charity group.

The items were collected by the Edinburgh North East foodbank and will be handed out to those in need over the festive period.

P6 pupil Katie Dixon helped organise the collection, she said: "Children and adults deserve a special treat on what is a special day. It was really important to us to make that happen.

"I'm really excited to spend time with my family and to know I've done something good, it makes me proud of us."
