Armed robbers steal £10,000 worth of jewellery in store raid
It happened in Leith earlier this morning.
Armed robbers left a worker injured as they stole more than £10,000 worth of jewellery from a store.
Three men armed with a sledgehammer and axes jumped out of a stolen car and forced their way into the jewellery shop at Great Junction Street, Leith, Edinburgh at about 11am on Saturday.
They stole jewellery believed to be worth a five-figure sum, and during the robbery a 55-year-old staff member in the store was left with minor injuries to his arm.
The three robbers and their male getaway driver then drove off in the stolen black Volkswagen Golf, before abandoning the car in Giles Street, where it was found at about midday.
Police said the car, registration number SM66 BJZ, was stolen during a break-in at a home in the city's Swanston View, between 10pm the previous night and 8am on the day of the robbery.
The suspects work dark clothes, including black jackets made from a shiny material, with the hoods up.
They also had garments covering their faces and were wearing black gloves.
Detective Inspector Mark Lumsden said: "This was a brazen and extremely shocking robbery that caused great alarm and distress to the employee within, as well as resulting in him sustaining injury.
"We believe the same individuals responsible for the housebreaking and theft of the car in Swanston View were also responsible for the armed robbery and we are keen to establish where they have been before, during and after these incidents.
"Anyone who saw the Volkswagen Golf between 10pm on Friday and midday on Saturday and can help us confirm its movements throughout the city until it was abandoned, should contact police immediately.
"Similarly if you have any relevant dash-cam footage, or other information that may be of use to our investigation, then please also get in touch."
