Lecturers at Edinburgh Uni to stage fresh strike in row over pay

They'll join several other universities across the UK

Lecturers at the University of Edinburgh are to stage a fresh wave of strikes in a long-running row over pay.

They'll join several other institutes across the UK by taking part in industrial action on separate days next week.

Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at Winchester University are on strike today, coinciding with an open day for potential students and parents.

The union is finalising plans for further walkouts at other UK universities throughout the summer as part of a campaign of protest against a 1.1% pay offer.

UCU general secretary Sally Hunt said: Members have been left with no alternative but to escalate their industrial action after universities refused to come back to the negotiating table with a fair offer.

Targeted disruptions will be taking place across the UK until the employers recognise the anger staff feel at having their pay held down, while a few at the top continue to be handsomely rewarded.''
