The final show at Edinburgh's King’s Theatre before it's due to close for renovations has been cancelled.

Sunshine On Leith has come to an end a week early due to a Covid-19 outbreak among the cast.

Fiona Gibson, Capital Theatres Chief Executive, said: “We are all devastated that after so much work producing this fabulous heart-warming show with our friends at Pitlochry Festival Theatre it has been cancelled due to this awful pandemic.

“It is especially disappointing because it was our last show before the King’s closes for redevelopment.

“We would like to thank you for your continued support during this difficult period.”

Based on the Proclaimers biggest hits, this rendition of the play received plaudits from critics since doors opened on 7th of June.

Ticketholders are being refunded, although bosses have also asked those who had been due to go to consider making a donation to help make up for the lost revenue.

The King’s Theatre was set to close following the show's finale in order to begin work on a revamp.
