Diver who died on Fife scuba trip named as 45-year-old 'family man'

Emergency services were called there on Sunday morning

A man who died after getting into difficulty while scuba diving near a beach in Fife has been named by police.

Les Elder was taking part in an organised dive close to Kinghorn Beach in Burntisland on Sunday morning when the alarm was raised.

Emergency services, including the coastguard helicopter, were called to the scene around 9.55am and the 45-year-old was pulled from the water, but died a short time later.

Les was from the Saline area and his family have released a short statement through Police Scotland.

It read: “Les was a much loved family man and will be missed by everyone who knew him.”

Officers also confirmed in line with all sudden deaths, a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
