Keane Wallis-Bennett FAI begins in Edinburgh
A Fatal Accident Inquiry into the death of a 12-year old schoolgirl, more than three years ago, began in Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.
Keane Wallis-Bennett, a pupil at Liberton High School in the city, was killed on the morning of April 1, 2014, when a free-standing modesty wall in the changing room of the PE Department collapsed.
The Inquiry before Sheriff Principal Mhairi Stephen QC is expected to last two weeks.
Opening the Inquiry, Sheriff Stephen said its purpose was to establish as precisely as possible the circumstances of Keane's death and she offered her sympathy to the family and friends of the girl. "The whole community was totally shocked by Keane's death. A young woman who attended school on April 1, 2014, and did not return to her family". Sheriff Stephen added: "School should be a safe place for people".
