Josh Doig forced to pull out of Scotland U21 squad
Josh Doig admits he is "gutted'' at having to withdraw from Scotland Under-21s duty just two days after being handed his first call-up.
The Scottish Football Writers' Association young player of the year suffered a bitter blow last weekend as his Hibernian side lost out to St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup final.
But there was consolation in store when under-21 boss Scot Gemmill named the impressive 19-year-old left-back in his squad for next month's friendly double-header with Northern Ireland.
His hopes of adding to his sole Scotland under-18 cap have been dashed for now, however, after the badly bruised heel he picked up at Hampden forced him to pull out of Gemmill's squad.
The teenager - who has been linked with a string of Premier League clubs on the back of his breakthrough campaign - posted on Twitter: "Was really looking forward to meeting up with the squad.
"Gutted to have to pull out. In good hands with our medical team so have to take the advice on board.
"Hopefully I'll do enough to get another chance. Wishing all the Scotland Under-21 boys the best for the two games.''
Gemmill's team take on Northern Ireland at Dumbarton's C&G Systems Stadium on Wednesday, June 2, before hosting the same side again three days later.
