Rangers winger Jordan Jones has moved to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year old was surplus to requirements at Ibrox with Steven Gerrard choosing to ship him out on a permanent basis.

The Northern Ireland international joined from Kilmarnock in 2019 and made 19 appearances in total - scoring once.

He was fined by the club and loaned out to Sunderland last season after breaching coronavirus lockdown rules by attending an illegal gathering with teammate George Edmundson.

In a statement on the club website they said: "Rangers can today announce the departure of Jordan Jones to Wigan Athletic on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

"The Northern Ireland internationalist joined Rangers in 2019, playing a total of 19 games, scoring 1 goal. Rangers wish Jordan well for the future and in his move to Lancashire".

Speaking to Wigan's official website, Jones said: “I’m over the moon – the move has been in the pipeline for a few weeks so I’m just thankful to be here and I cannot wait to get started and kick on.

“I spoke to the manager and a few of the players, and it seems there is such a positive vibe around the place at the minute - it’s something that I want to be a part of.

“They’ve got a clear vision with how they want to play football; playing attacking football and getting as many results as we can."
