Jobs at risk at Skyscanner in Edinburgh
The firm is proposing changes to its workforce.
Skyscanner is revealing changes to its workforce which could see around 80 jobs cut in Edinburgh.
The travel company says it’s as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty around the industry’s recovery.
A statement from the firm says, “We are proposing some changes to our teams. These include optimising our organisational structure, centralising our marketing teams to the UK and consolidating our office footprint. As a result of this, we anticipate around 20% of our staff of 1,500 will unfortunately leave the business globally and two of our smaller offices (Budapest and Sofia) will likely close.
“We cannot give a definitive figure on the number of roles we may lose in Edinburgh, as our proposals are subject to consultation. At this stage, our proposals potentially affect 84 employees in Edinburgh. The potentially affected number in this office make up around 8% of our total UK workforce: however, most of our new open roles as part of this process are in the UK.
“Priority for those roles will be given to employees affected by the proposals in the UK, including Edinburgh, as an alternative to redundancy. As such, our UK locations, including Edinburgh, will likely be less affected than others across our business by these proposals.
“This is a hard time for our people and teams, so throughout this process our priority - as it always is - will be to treat everyone with empathy, care and respect. We’ll be working to make sure we support them as much as we can.”
