Investigation launched into rape of woman in Edinburgh city centre

Police are appealing for information after a woman was raped at a bus stop in Edinburgh city centre.

The attack's said to have happened during the early hours of this morning on Lothian Road near St John's Church and opposite the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Officers are calling for any potential witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating following a report of a serious sexual assault which occurred during the early hours of Tuesday 20th September in the Lothian Road area of the city.

"Inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist officers with their investigation is asked to come forward."
