An investigation's been launched into allegations a Falkirk secondary pupil took a knife into school on Monday.

It's claimed the boy brought the weapon in his schoolbag - and was caught, when he showed it to friends who reported it to teachers.

In a statement a Falkirk Council spokesperson said: "We are aware of an alleged incident earlier this week, and education staff are working in partnership with police to assist with this matter.

"The Education Authority and Police Scotland treat all suggestions that weapons of any sort are being brought into school premises very seriously and will not tolerate this in any way.

"Be assured that all appropriate action will be taken to prevent and detect these incidents."

It's understood that no criminal charges have been filed.
