Hearts winger Sam Nicholson will miss the next three months following surgery on his knee, Forth News understands.

The Scotland Under-21 player had an operation during the international break to fix an issue, but a deeper problem was discovered.

Consequently, Jambos head coach Robbie Neilson will be without the 21-year-old until January at the earliest.

Nicholson, who came through the Tynecastle youth system, has scored four goals in nine appearances this season.

He made his debut against Inverness in August, 2013.
