A man who stabbed his wife to death at their home in West Lothian as their young children slept upstairs is being jailed for a minimum of 20 years.

36-year-old Erhan Havaleoglu murdered Leighanne Cameron, 29, pictured, in Mid Calder on 28th October 2015.

The couple had separated a few months before the attack.

Havaleoglu was previously found guilty of murder following a trial at the High Court in Paisley.

This morning, he was sentenced to life behind bars with a minimum of term of 20 years at the High Court in Glasgow.

He repeatedly stabbed Leighanne in the neck, stomach and back, then fled leaving her dyng on the floor.

She was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detective Chief Inspector Raymond Brown of Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team said: "Leighanne's death has been absolutely devastating for her family and those close to her.

"Her five-year-old daughter and two-year-old son have been robbed of their loving mum in the most horrific of circumstances.

"Havaleoglu has callously refused to admit responsibility for Leighanne's murder ever since, despite extensive evidence against him.

"Unfortunately, nothing can undo his actions that day but hopefully the outcome at court provides some form of comfort and closure to Leighanne’s family and friends."
