The search for a missing French student is continuing one week on from his disappearance.

Antoine Maury was last seen in Edinburgh at about 10pm on Monday October 24.

The 21-year-old was at Edinburgh College's Milton Road East Campus when he suddenly left the company of his friends.

Police are investigating a possible sighting of him between 10.45pm and 11pm near the Duddingston Village area of Holyrood Park, heading into the park.

Chief Inspector Kevin McLean said: Antoine has now been missing for a week and it is imperative that we find him.''

The search has focused around the Holyrood Park area of the city, with around 100 volunteers joining police over the weekend to search areas around Duddingston Golf Club and Holyrood High School.

The Police Scotland Marine Unit will be out again in Duddingston Loch and there will also be police searches in Holyrood Park.

Officers will return to the Duddingston Village and Holyrood Park areas at about 10.30pm on Monday to appeal to members of the public, both on foot and within vehicles, who may have information.

Mr McLean added: I would like to thank the members of the public who came to the Duddingston area at the weekend to help us find Antoine. This activity was essential and is very much appreciated.

As before, we would urge anyone who lives in the Duddingston Village area to check their gardens and outhouses, as this may lead us to discovering Antoine whereabouts.

I would also ask regular users of the park who were there last week to think back and ask themselves if they saw Antoine.

This continues to be a live investigation and as we carry on our search to find Antoine, anyone who still has information that can further our investigation is asked to get in touch with us as soon as possible.''

The man seen heading into the park on Monday, who matched the 21-year-old's description, was topless, but police said they are keeping an open mind'' in relation to his clothing.

Mr Maury is white, around 6ft, of medium build, with short brown hair, a beard and a fair complexion. He has a tattoo of a bleeding hand on his forearm.

He was last seen wearing a brown/green bomber jacket with dark chinos and a white beanie hat. He is thought to have been wearing black and white Vans trainers.

He suffers from poor eyesight and usually wear glasses, however officers believe he is without them.

He was born and raised in Paris and moved to St Andrews to study when he was 16.
