A former Merchiston Castle rugby player is making a remarkable recovery, after being paralysed from the neck down during a rugby game.

Connor Hughes sustained serious spinal damage while playing for Stirling Universtiy against Harris Academy 17 months ago.

But now the 21-year-old's been able to move his legs and stand unaided, after becoming the first UK person to undergo a revolutionary treatment in Thailand.

The procedure saw a tiny implant fitted to his spine, allowing him to feel a 'tingling' in his legs again.

His family have praised his determination, and say it's given them hope he can recover even further.
