Holyrood committee seeks views on city and region deals

MSPs are to probe the impact of city and region deals across Scotland.

Holyrood's Local Government and Communities Committee has issued a call for views on the deals, which are designed to boost regional growth, innovation and infrastructure.

The committee wants to hear from organisations and the public on their purpose and governance, and whether they are delivering on expectations and working for communities.

Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness already have active city region deals in place, with Edinburgh and Stirling close behind and joint proposals also being considered in Perth and Dundee.

Committee convener Bob Doris said: We've all seen the headlines and attention given to the wave of new city region deals that are popping up across the country.

The original city deals brought the opportunity for significant investment from both Scottish and UK governments to boost local economies outwith London.

There was much excitement and anticipation around the additional investment, which could be of strategic benefit to local economies and communities.

Our committee now wants to examine this from a local government perspective.

We want to hear from the general public, organisations and businesses on whether they think city region deals are on track to deliver local growth and innovation across Scotland.''
