Hearts star Jamie Walker set to complete Wigan switch next week

Jamie Walker is set to complete his move to Wigan early next week.

The midfielder has looked set for a move away from Hearts since last summer, when he was heavily linked with a move to Rangers which never transpired.

Walker refused to commit to a new contract, meaning the Jambos have decided to cash in on him with just six months left on his current deal at Tynecastle.

The 24-year-old, who has been at the Edinburgh club his whole career, has travelled to Wigan to discuss personal details and an official announcement on the deal is expected early next week, for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £300,000.

It has been a frustrating season for Walker, who has suffered a succession of hamstring injuries which have restricted him to 16 league games this term, scoring just two goals.

Manager Craig Levein had last week played down talk of Walker departing in the near future, suggesting the club not yet had any concrete stuff going through'', and also refused to discuss a move in the opposite direction for Latics midfielder Jack Byrne
