Hearts boss Robbie Neilson admits Matt Gilks interest
He's out of contract in the summer
Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson has confirmed his interest in Scotland goalkeeper Matt Gilks.
The 33-year-old's contract with English Championship winners Burnley expires this summer and he has been in Edinburgh to have a look at the Jambos' set-up.
Ahead of the visit of St Johnstone on Sunday in the final Ladbrokes Premiership fixture of the season, Neilson said: He is one that we have looked at, as we have looked at several players. It is that time of year.
Obviously you can't sign anybody until June 9 so we are just looking.
He just came up to have a look and a chat as we have done with a few players. We will see how things progress over the next few weeks with several of our targets.
We are always trying to move the squad forward and make sure that the people who come in are better than the ones that go. But it is very early stages.
We don't need that many - four, maybe, not as many as last summer because the boys have proven they can play at this level so it is just adding a bit more quality.''
It is a quick turnaround in terms of preparations for Hearts following their narrow 1-0 win over league runners-up Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Thursday night.
Neilson praised his side in reaching their highest points total in the top flight in a decade.
It was great to get the victory,'' he said.
The first-half performances from both teams weren't great, not a lot of football was played, we negated each other a bit.
It was a bit more open in the second half and either team could have won the game.
We have played them five times and won three and it was the first time we had won up there in a while and to get 64 points, which is the best return we have had in the league for 10 years, is great.
It is good boost for the players and hopefully we carry it on to Sunday.''
