Unions are raising questions over health and safety on Scotland's biggest construction project after the death of a worker yesterday (Thurs).

A 60-year-old man was hit by the boom of a crane on the Queensferry Crossing as he stood on the deck of the north tower.

Another man suffered minor injuries.

UCATT is a union representing construction workers and their Scottish Secretary Harry Frew told Forth News, "If you are operating cranes you should always have somebody there who can see what is going on, on the ground.

"Obviously this individual has been the result of a failure there and this resulted in this fatality.

He continued, "I don't know if the individual was working on the crane, whether he was doing a repair to it or whether he was working in the vicinity of a crane.

"These cranes are very. very hi-tech".
