Construction is underway on three giant office blocks, two hotels and a new square on a gap site in central Edinburgh.

The £350m buildings on four-acres of land at Haymarket will have space for 4,500 workers with the first due to open in the second quarter of 2022.

The new 'Haymarket Square' will be surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants and will also feature an events space.

Chief executive of the developer Qmile, Paul Curran, said: "Our objective is to make Haymarket Edinburgh a world-class place for business, leisure and hospitality.

"With work now started on site, the vision for Haymarket is well on its way to becoming a reality.

"There has already been significant interest from a range of occupiers and we only expect this to increase now we have begun the build programme with the first building".
