Police have been investigating the discovery by a member of the public in Haddington, on Monday morning.
The man has been named as 33-year-old Andrew Gillies, who lived locally.
Mr Gillies was last seen in the town's Riverside area on Saturday.
A police spokesman said: Inquiries are continuing, however there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.
Anyone who may have seen Andy between 11.30am on Saturday and 6am on Monday, and can help us establish his movements during this time, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.''
