Gunman Targets City Centre Jewellers Then Escapes In Taxi

An upmarket jewellery store in Edinburgh city centre has been robbed by a man who threatened staff with a handgun before escaping in a taxi. The suspect targeted Laing the jeweller on Frederick Street at about 9:30am this morning (Mon) and it is understood he escaped with several valuable Rolex watches. No-one was injured and the value of the haul is still being worked out. After the robbery, the man ran off along Rose Street and into Hanover Street where he got into a private hire car and was driven to Pilton. He was last seen getting out of the vehicle in Pilton Drive North at its junction with Royston Mains Crescent He is described as male, white, early 30s, 5ft 10inches tall, wearing a dark padded hooded jacket, blue trousers, blue and white scarf, and carrying a black and white rucksack. Detective Sergeant Raymond Gray said: "This robbery left the staff badly shaken but thankfully unhurt. "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the man, or has information about the crime, so that we can trace him as soon as possible. "I would ask those with information to contact police immediately on 101."
