Police and Celtic investigate claims Leigh Griffiths sent inappropriate messages
The 30 year-old striker is accused of messaging a girl under the age of 16 on social media
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has been sent home from their training camp in Wales as the club and Police Scotland investigate claims he sent inappropriate messages to a girl under the age of 16.
Screenshots allegedly sent from the 30-year old's Instagram account surfaced on social media on Tuesday.
Police Scotland are now investigating while Celtic say they will look into the matter carefully.
The girl in question told followers that Griffiths had been unaware of her age during the alleged exchange.
The Scotland international signed a new one-year deal with the Parkhead side last week.
A Celtic spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of online comments concerning Leigh Griffiths. The Club will now look into this matter carefully.
“Leigh has left the Club’s training camp as we do this.
“It would not be appropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We have been made aware of social media content. We are making enquiries and assessing for criminality.”
