The Great Run's international cross country event is to move from Edinburgh to Stirling.

The switch comes after the city council decided to withdraw funding for the event.

It had been held in the capital for 13 years.

The race will be held in its new home for the first time on January 12th 2019.

Brendan Foster, Chairman of the Great Run Company, said: “We’re delighted to confirm our new partnership with Stirling Council and look forward to working with them and Event Scotland to deliver the first Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry in 2019.

“Stirling as a city is embracing sport as an important part of its future, it’s the perfect location for the event, which is a hugely significant fixture in the international athletics calendar."
