Locals and visitors to the Granton waterfront area are being asked to vote on a name for a new public square.

The public can select a name already suggested or choose their own.

So far, proposed names include Station Square, Esparto Square and Queen of Thanet Square.

It comes as part of Edinburgh City Council’s regeneration project in the area worth £1.3bn.

The square is set to be built outside the historic former Granton Station and will be used for community events and recreation.

Cammy Day, deputy leader for City of Edinburgh Council said: “I’d encourage everyone with a connection to Granton Waterfront to read more about why each name has been suggested and case their vote or offer a suggestion of their own.

“It’s important we get the right name for the new square as it’s our intention that it will become a focal point at the heart of our wider £1.3bm regeneration of the area for the community and visitors to enjoy for generations to come, while creating jobs and homes and citizens.”

Voting runs until June 2.
