German shepherd found by Scottish SPCA so thin inspector "could lift it with one hand"

A German shepherd dog that was so thin it could be lifted with one hand has been found by the Scottish SPCA in Livingston.

The severely emaciated animal was discovered on East Main Street last Wednesday - officers aren't ruling out that he was dumped there.

Inspector Stuart Murray said, “We are appealing for any information regarding this dog, please get in touch if you recognise him.

“This is thinnest dog I have ever seen in my line of work. He was in a state of complete emaciation and unable to lift his head, I was shocked that he was still alive. Despite being a large German shepherd breed I could lift him with one hand.

“From the dog’s long claws and general condition he had most likely not been outside for some time however we are hopeful that someone will recognise this canine and be able to help us with our enquiries.

“The decision was made by a vet to sadly put him to sleep to prevent any further suffering.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
