The re-landscaping of East Princes Street Gardens is now running five months behind schedule.

It means the park will remain closed for part of the summer but we're promised it'll be ready for the start of the August festivals.

The gardens have been a building site since January as work continues on a new entrance to the Scottish National Gallery.

The cost of the project has risen from £15.3m to £22m since the plans were first announced in 2015.

Bosses say the landscaping has been a "complex engineering feat which has taken slightly longer than programmed."

John Leighton, Director-General of the National Galleries of Scotland added: "I want to extend a big thank you to the residents and visitors of Edinburgh during the construction works in East Princes Street Gardens.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and we appreciate you bearing with us whilst we make these transformative changes"
