The future of Edinburgh's iconic Royal High School will be decided by a public inquiry.

It will be held at Tynecastle Park from September 18.

The building on Calton Hill has been at the centre of controversial plans to transform the site in to a luxury hotel. Those proposals were rejected by Edinburgh Council but developers are appealing that decision.

Campaigners have backed alternative plans to turn it in to the new home for St Mary's Music School.

Scottish government reporters will now look at all options in a public inquiry.
