Edinburgh shop to offer free bikes to those in the South West
The Bike Station wants to make cycling affordable and accessible for everyone
An Edinburgh shop is looking to offer free bikes to communities in the South West of the Capital.
The Bike Station, which recently expanded by opening a store on Gorgie Road has launched a free to access programme to help people in the area, including Sighthill and Saughton, to take up cycling.
The business specialises in refurbishing and recycling bicycles.
A number of programmes, including bike health checks and group rides are on offer too.
The scheme is to run until the end of June.
Chief Executive Sasha Taylor told Forth News: "It's an opportunity for us to really give something back to the community.
"It enables us to be able to offer free bikes within the community, affordable bikes within the community and also free maintenance classes.
"And also doctor bike, this is when we do a free bike health check and tell you what needs fixing on your bike and do those minor changes for you.
"We'll also be offering free led rides and group rides from Saughton Park."
The free to access programme is Funded by Paths for All; Smarter Choices, Smarter Places.
