Four people have been arrested after violent disorder between rival football fans after yesterday’s Hibs-Motherwell match.

Police raced to the scene at St Andrew’s Square in Edinburgh after reports of supporters involved in a major disturbance with bottles allegedly thrown.

Officers have confirmed that four men, aged 16, 17, 18 and 22, have been charged in connection. All four have since been released and are due to appear in court at a later date.

Two other people who were also arrested have been released without charge.

It’s unclear if there were any injuries during the trouble. Motherwell won the match 2-1 with a late Andy Halliday goal

Police said in a statement: “Four males, aged 16, 17, 18 and 22, have been charged in connection with incidents of violence and disorder in Edinburgh.

“Officers attended the St Andrew Square area of the city following the Hibs v Motherwell match on Saturday, 5 October, 2024.

“Two other people who were also arrested have been released without charge.

“All four males have been released on an undertaking and are due to appear in court at a later date.”
