Former Hibs striker Jamie Insall banned from football after failing drugs test

Former Hibs player Jamie Insall has been suspended from football for two years for cocaine use.

UK Anti-Doping has confirmed Insall, who had two spells on loan at East Fife from the Hibees, tested positive after a game against Livingston on March 11 this year.

The 25-year-old claimed he had unwittingly drunk beers which had been contaminated with cocaine by a group of friends on the night before the game.

Insall admitting drinking 10 to 11 bottles as he was injured and did not expect to play the following day, but was included in the squad because of further call-offs and came on as an 89th-minute substitute.

The UKAD hearing ruled he was substantially at fault for the doping offence.

UKAD chief executive Nicole Sapstead said: Regardless of how it got there, every athlete is solely responsible for what is in their system and must adhere to the strict liability principle. They must ensure that they take the appropriate steps to manage the risk at all times.''

Insall, who scored six goals for East Fife last season, was released by Hibs in the summer after failing to make a first-team appearance for the club. The former Redditch United player had signed in September 2015 after making the step up from the English non-league ranks.
