He's 56, from Falkirk and used to be the manager of Grangemouth Sports Complex.

But Andrew Kerr has come a long way since he started his career and has just been named as the chief executive of Edinburgh Council.

He will replace Dame Sue Bruce who is due to retire in October.

Mr Kerr is also a former athlete and ran for Team GB in the 400m.

Edinburgh Council needs to find savings of £67m by 2018 but the new boss could be just the man to plug the financial hole in the city's finances.

In his previous role as Chief Executive of Cornwall Council he found savings of £100m.

Cllr Andrew Burns, Leader of Edinburgh Council, said: "I’m delighted that Andrew Kerr has emerged as our preferred candidate.

"We ran a rigorous competitive recruitment process with a strong field of candidates.

"It was essential we chose the right calibre of person for this important and challenging leadership role".
