Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter Christine McVie has sadly died at the age of 79, her family have confirmed.

The British musician - who was behind hits including Songbird, Little Lies, Everywhere and Don't Stop - passed away after a short illness.

Her family described her as "an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally".

Christine joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970.

Despite its tumultous history, the band was one of the world's best known rock bands in the 70s and 80s.

In a statement, Fleetwood Mac said "We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed."
