Fire Damage Forces Services To Be Cancelled At Mortonhall Crematorium

Services at Mortonhall Crematorium have been cancelled for the rest of this week after a fire on Tuesday evening. Crews were called to the scene at around 6.45pm. More than 35 firefighters were involved in bringing the blaze in the roof space of one of the buildings under control in "challenging conditions'', the brigade said. There were no workers or members of the public in the building at the time of the blaze. A spokesperson from Edinburgh Council said: "A fire occurred at Mortonhall Crematorium yesterday evening and was brought under control by the Fire and Rescue Service. "This happened after the crematorium had closed and there were no staff in the building. “A full investigation of the area is now underway to assess damage and take measures to ensure that the site is safe. "This means all services this week will be postponed. We are in contact with those affected."
