WATCH: Fire crews tackle scrapyard blaze in Leven

Smoke was seen billowing over the seaside town on Wednesday morning

Fire crews have extinguised an early hours blaze at a Fife scrapyard.

They were called to the scene on Montgomery Drive in Leven at around 4.30am on Wednesday morning.

Police warned nearby residents to keep their windows and doors shut because of smoke billowing over the town.

No-one was hurt in the blaze.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 4.23am on Wednesday, July 18 to reports of a fire within a scrapyard on Montgomery Drive, Leven.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of fire engines and firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

“There were no casualties.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."
